Established in the mid-eighties, Monterey Park flanks the eastern edge of the city, just north of Highway 1.  One of the largest communities in the north east, this California inspired area is dotted full of green space, parks and amenities.  The neighbourhood is anchored by the Monterey Park Community Association which offers a vast array of programs and events, along with a large hall that's available for rent.  The association also offers a variety of sports amenities including a soccer field, baseball diamonds, tennis courts and a toboggan hill.  Village Square Leisure Center is just north of the community and offers two skating arenas, a wave pool with slides, rooms for fitness and dancing and a jungle gym.  Just north of the community is the Don Hartman Sportsplex that is equipped with two hockey rinks, indoor courts and a lounge.

The neighbourhood has several shopping options for it's residents.  On the southern border of the community is a plaza with a Co-Op, Pet Value and several local shops & services.  Only minutes to the west is Village Square Mall and the TransCanada Shopping Centre - both boasting more groceries like Save-On and Co-Op, as well as a variety of shops to choose from.

Schools in the area include The Monterey Park Elementary School, Dr. Gladys McKelvie Egbert Junior High School and Lester B. Pearson Senior High School.
