NorthEast, Calgary

Established in 1977, the north east neighbourhood of Temple offers some of the most affordable in Calgary and has a young vibrant multi-cultural community.
 

Vibrant and multi-cultural, the mature neighbourhood of Temple is in an ideal location and boasts excellent, family-friendly amenities.

Temple is located just south of McKnight Blvd in north east region of Calgary. Although the area was originally annexed in 1961, it did not officially develop into a community until 1977. Temple, along with the neighbouring communities of Pineridge, Rundle and Whitehorn, were originally referred to as “The Properties”.  Today, the community is very active and take pride in their cultural diversity.

Location and Accessibility

Temple is located in the northeast region of Calgary. The community is bordered by:

  • North: McKnight Blvd
  • South: 32nd Avenue NE
  • East: 68th Street NE
  • West: 52nd Street NE

The community is surrounded by a number of important routes including 52 Street E on the west, 32 Avenue N on the south, 68 Street E on the east and the McKnight Boulevard on the north that connect it to the rest of the city.

Education and Healthcare

The community is served by several reputable schools that include St. Thomas Moore School, Guy Weadick School and Annie Foote School. Outside the neighbourhood, there are plenty of excellent schooling options for the kids. See our list of schools nearby here.

West of the community is The Foothills Medical Centre and the Alberta Children’s Hospital, one of Calgary’s largest hospitals. The hospital offers comprehensive medical services, including emergency care, specialized treatments, and outpatient services, ensuring residents have access to high-quality healthcare.

The community boasts plenty of green spaces and amenities and has a very active association.

A central park in the neighborhood, Templegreen Park features playgrounds, sports fields, and walking paths. It’s a popular spot for families and community events. There are several other parks scattered throughout the neighborhood, providing ample green space for relaxation, picnics, and outdoor activities.

The Temple Community Association provides a number of activities and programs for residents of Temple.  In addition, the association boasts some of the best amenities in Calgary, which includes a skating rink, tennis courts, outdoor exercise machines, baseball diamonds, pickle ball, fitness centre, hall rental, disc-frisbee golf and free wifi.  In nearby Pineridge, residents have easy access to Village Square Leisure Centre, which has a total size of 5.5 acres and houses an aquatic park, two hockey arenas, a fitness facility, dance studio, dive tank, gymnasium, hot tub, steam room, library and jungle gym for the kids.  It is one of 2 Leisure Centres operated by the City of Calgary.

Shop & Dine

The Castleridge Mall is just north of the neighbourhood.

This popular shopping strip is anchored by Safeway and has several shops and services.  McKnight Village is just across the road with more shops & services including Shoppers Drug Mart.  The Real Canadian Superstore is located just 5 minutes northwest of the community. Sunridge Mall is the closest large shopping facility to the community. The shopping area along 36 Street, which is home to Marlborough Mall, IKEA, Walmart, Home Depot, restaurants and entertainment facilities like movie theatres is also close by.

Temple offers a diverse range of housing options, including single-family homes, townhouses, and duplexes.

Most of the homes were built in the late 1970s and early 1980s, with a variety of architectural styles reflecting that era.
