Established in the mid-eighties, Monterey Park flanks the eastern edge of the city, just north of Highway 1.  One of the largest communities in the north east, this California inspired area is dotted full of green space, parks and amenities.

Named after the city of Monterey in California, the neighborhood’s architectural style and street names reflect a Californian theme, adding a unique charm to the area. Location and Accessibility

Monterey Park is located in the northeast region of Calgary. The community is bordered by:

  • North: McKnight Blvd
  • South: 16th Avenue NE
  • East: Stoney Trail
  • West: 68th Street NE

Monterey Park has excellent access to major roadways, including Stoney Trail, McKnight Boulevard, and the Trans-Canada Highway, which provide convenient routes for traveling around Calgary and to surrounding areas.

Education and Healthcare

Monterey Park features multiple parks and playgrounds, such as Monterey Park Field and Monterey Park Community Garden, offering spaces for sports, outdoor activities, and community gatherings.

The neighbourhood is anchored by the Monterey Park Community Association which offers a vast array of programs and events, along with a large hall that’s available for rent.  The association also offers a variety of sports amenities including a soccer field, baseball diamonds, tennis courts and a toboggan hill.  Village Square Leisure Center is just north of the community and offers two skating arenas, a wave pool with slides, rooms for fitness and dancing and a jungle gym.  Just north of the community is the Don Hartman Sportsplex that is equipped with two hockey rinks, indoor courts and a lounge.

Shop & Dine

Monterey Park offers convenient access to shopping and dining options, catering to the daily needs of its residents.

Within and near the neighborhood, residents can find a selection of local businesses, grocery stores, and services that cater to everyday needs. On the southern border of the community is a plaza with a Co-Op, Pet Value and several local shops & services.  Only minutes to the west is Village Square Mall and the TransCanada Shopping Centre – both boasting more groceries like Save-On and Co-Op, as well as a variety of shops to choose from.

Sunridge Mall is minutes away. This popular mall has more than 150 stores such as Sport Check, Aldo, H&M, Old Navy and Bath and Body Works.  A quick trip south on 36th Street SE brings you to another excellent shopping district with big box retailers, notably at Marlborough Mall who hosts a Walmart, a Home Depot and a Canadian Tire.
