Mission has a deep historical significance in Calgary. Originally settled as a French Catholic mission in the late 1800s, the area became known as the Mission District. It was officially incorporated into the City of Calgary in the early 1900s and retains much of its old-world charm with a mix of preserved heritage buildings and churches. The influence of the French Catholic community is still visible today, especially in landmarks such as St. Mary’s Cathedral and St. Mary’s High School.

Location and Accessibility

Mission is located in the city centre region of Calgary. The community is bordered by:

  • North: 17th Avenue Avenue SW
  • South: 26th Avenue SW
  • East: Elbow River
  • West: 4th Street SW

Residents have the luxury of quick access to the Elbow River pathway, where you’ll find locals and visitors running, biking and walking along the river.  Repsol Centre is a nearby, downtown is a quick 10-15 minute walk and the always buzzing 17th Avenue is only steps away.

Education and Healthcare
